The tracks were then brought back to my studio in Canada, where I tracked the vocal performances, mixed and mastered the final product. "Elevator" is probably my favorite track from these sessions. I think it really serves to showcase the talent of this rhthym section and captures some great groove & feel. In my mind, only the "real deal" do it better. Granted, there are some significant production values missing on this recording, and it's a bit of a rare bird sonically. But I think this female duo did an amazing job of recreating a very key piece of this piece of music, the rhythm track that guides you through a myriad of rock changes. For those who've never thought about it, this song has one of the longest guitar solo sections of any top-10 rock and roll song on record, ever. Yet it still apeals to a listener who'd rather - "don't bore us, get to the chorus!". It's that boppy rhythm that pulls you through this rule-breaking, "pop song".
"Living On The Edge" is a huge undertaking from a production standpoint. A lot of time went into creating the original Aerosmith track, and I'm most proud of the fact that this is pretty much how we sounded live. It's easy to produce something in the studio, and make it sound "bigger", but another thing entirely to also try and mimic something as huge as the sound of this tracks original version on GAG (Get a Grip). The backing material that the band played with live has all been added back into this "live" take - But in the end, it's really just the sound of a band playing all out, live and in the moment.
"Toys In The Attic" is undoubtedly the best demonstration of how this line-up of players could really kick some major Aero-ass! Start to finish this track rocks. Again, the "live off the floor" vibe is all too apparent in this cut. This track really helps to capture the essence of what these sessions were about. Capturing the band in a "as close to" live setting as possible. If you read my blog entry XXX, you can learn how modest some of the methods we used on this recording, actually were. Judge for yourself.
"Dream On" is sacred terra firma. I've never heard another tribute band attempt to record/demo this track, and now I know why. This is a timeless vocal performance by Steven Tyler, to the point where I actually gave up "trying to sound like him" on this track. Steven uses his trademark "Kermit the frog" mode on the original album track, something that I wasn't comfortable trying to accomplish on record. Most live performance see ST singing this classic in his balls-to-the-wall, raspy, signature-throat. So, that's where I tried to take it. A careful balance of ST, but just singing it like it were handed to me, not neccesarily an Aero trib, more of a rendition. I hope you enjoy it and that I've done the original some justice.
